What is Sustainable Development?

Sustainability at Cal Poly means:
"...balancing environmental responsiveness, resource efficiency and cultural and community sensitivity"
- US Green Building Council


Poly Canyon Village will be LEED certified, receiving points for such things as:

    • Storm water system
    • Reduced water use by 30% after meeting the requirements of the energy policy act of 1992
    • Exceeds Title 24 energy conservation requirements
    • Operable windows and natural ventilation
    • Recycle 75% of the construction waste
    • 10% of the total value of the materials in the project will be recycled
    • 20% of the materials will be manufactured regionally
    • Use of low emitting materials such as sealants, paint, carpet and composite wood products
    • Daylight and views from 90% of the regularly occupied spaces
    • Reduction of number of buildings and footprint while retaining the program
    • Providing a co-gen system

Poly Canyon Village will be the first LEED certified project on the Cal Poly campus and will be the largest LEED certified project in the CSU system.
