The mission of Architectural Trades is to deliver services in a cost-effective, timely, courteous, and professional manner, while providing a safe, comfortable, and enhanced learning/working environment utilizing current technology. The section is comprised of three separate trade shops: Carpenter Shop, Lock Shop, and Paint Shop, which are responsible for maintaining over three million square feet of building space campus wide, including State-funded buildings and residence halls. All trade shop personnel are committed to providing the best quality service to campus students, faculty, and staff.
All shops complete emergency response, preventive maintenance, campus maintenance requests, and small department-funded recharge work. Maintenance and recharge work can be requested through the Service Request Form (Word) (PDF) or by calling Facilities Work Center at 756-5555.

All work associated with the interior and exterior building structure and components can be handled by the Carpenter Shop. This includes repairs to doors and door jambs, floors, ceilings, wall systems, windows and window coverings, construction of interior walls, cabinets, shelving, counters, and retaining walls, sidewalk forming and pouring, and restroom maintenance and repair. The shop also provides special event services for graduation, Open House, presidential functions, WOW week, athletic events, and other event services as requested.
The Carpenter Shop is organized into two areas with a Supervising Carpenter overseeing maintenance in the dormitory and State-funded buildings. The housing area has a Lead Carpenter and four Facility Workers who provide maintenance for all the dormitory buildings. The State-funded crew consists of two Carpenters and four Facility Workers who complete all maintenance on State-funded buildings. GPS/Satellite clocks are located in 112 general purpose lecture rooms in various campus buildings. These clocks pick up a signal by satellite and automatically adjust and change time during the spring and fall. If a clock does not automatically change within 48 hours, contact the Facilities Work Center at 756-5555, and someone from the Carpenter Shop will make the correction. All other clocks in offices and labs are battery-operated and can be changed by contacting the Facilities Work Center at 756-5555.
General maintenance painting is provided at no cost for classrooms that have not been painted in the past ten years. Paint Shop personnel are also responsible for removing campus graffiti (notify Facilities Work Center , 756-5555). Other public areas, restrooms, hallways, and instructional areas are painted on a maintenance request basis and priorities are set by the Lead Painter. Due to budget reductions, painting services are available for offices or departmental areas on a limited recharge basis. Special event painting and recharge painting services can be completed when time permits.
The Paint Shop is comprised of a Supervising Painter, two painters for all dormitory buildings, and two painters to paint State-funded buildings. The painters are committed to providing the best service possible with available resources.
All work associated with the proper functioning of door lock mechanisms and security on all campus doors is the responsibility of the Lock Shop. This includes removal of broken keys, core changes, lockset repairs, automatic door initial response problems, door closure repairs, repairs to building exit door hardware, and preventive maintenance. The shop is comprised of one lead locksmith and three locksmiths. One of the locksmiths is assigned to the Key Shop. Locksmiths work on a recharge basis, available to departments who need a different type of entry system, such as combination lock or core changes. The Locksmiths are dedicated to providing quick response lock repairs and security to the campus community. All lock repair requests can be directed to the Facilities Work Center at 756-5555.
